Situated in Newtownstewart, Strabane and District Community Network is one of the 12 Rural Support Networks, funded by DARD, who provide a key 'gateway' role as a point of contact for communities, channelling information to and from groups.
As well as giving an insight to the background and work of the Network, this site contains links to information and other sites, which may be of interest to community groups from the Strabane District Council area. Child Protection Training
(Children N.I.)

Date: Thursday 13th & 20th November 2008
Venue: Newtownstewart Centre 2000
Time: 7.00pm - 10.00pm

The North West Volunteer Centre have organised Child Protection training which is due to take place in November. This training is free and open to registered community/voluntary organisations in the Strabane District Council area.

Venue costs are being sponsored by S&DCN.

Dennett InterChange is announced as WINNER of the

Older People Services Category

in the Calor Village of the Year® competition


Congratulations to our member group Dennett InterChange, Donemana, who were awarded the Older People Services Category accolade in the Calor Village of the Year® competition. As well as the accolade, the group also receieved £1,000 cash at the ceremony which was held recently in the Killyhevlin Hotel and was hosted by TV personality John Craven.

The Calor Village of the Year® competition, which ran in conjunction with the Northern Ireland Rural Development Council (RDC), is aimed at celebrating vibrant, enterprising and caring communities that make the most of local opportunities. The competition assessed communities on five aspects of rural life - building community life, business, young people, environment, older people and each category was awarded at the event.

Western Area Transport Guide

The Western Area Transport Forum have just published a transport guide giving information on Community Transport Services, Community Car Schemes, Public Transport, Taxis, Patient Transport and other support available for older people in the west. The Network sends a monthly flyer to all the community and voluntary groups within the Strabane area. The flyer updates the community sector on upcoming events, funding opportunities, closing dates and deadlines and other items of interest.
