WESTERN HOME                             ENVIRONMENTAL  ASSESSMENT PROJECT  LAUNCH

                     "SAVE THE DATE"

"Warm, Safe, Healthy Homes for the West"

The Western Home Environmental Assessment Team are launching their project on:

Date:    Thursday 28th of January 2010

Venue:  Silverbirch Hotel Omagh,

Time:    Starts at 10.30am

The Big Lottery's Safe and Well Programme funds this project to support families with children under 5 years and persons over 65 yrs with issues of safety, security and health.  The project aims to reduce home accidents, fuel poverty and fear of crime as well as to improve physical and mental health and well-being of residents in the community.  Home Assessment Officers will visit homes and carry out assessments on issues around Home Safety, Security and Energy Efficiency.

The launch will afford you all the opportunity to learn more about this exciting and innovative project and  what it  can offer people in  both rural and urban communities across the West.  Guest speakers will be in attendance from across the agencies involved and will give an overview of the project outlining the range of services available.

The Western Home Environmental Assessment  Project (WHEAP) has adopted a "partnership approach" to deliver this service and would welcome attendance at this event from all sectors including statutory, public, private, community and voluntary  bodies who deliver a wide range of services to residents within our communities.  A buffet lunch will be provided after the launch and will offer a further opportunity to network with the various agencies in attendance.

Victims and their relatives urged                           to apply to £1.8m Memorial Fund

Conflict victims and victims’ relatives who may be eligible for financial assistance from the Memorial Fund are being encouraged to apply.  Some £1.8m has been made available to the Memorial Fund by the Office of the First Minister and Deputy First Minister.

The funding will help some of the most vulnerable citizens in our society and their families in a  practical way.  The new Victims and Survivors strategy, when fully implemented, will see a more focussed, co-ordinated and needs-led approach to how we provide support to victims and survivors.

The payments will be distributed through several schemes currently operated by the Memorial Fund.

People over 60 who have lost a brother or sister or a child or who were injured themselves during the conflict can apply for a £250 payment to help with the cost of living, particularly winter heating costs.

If you are a new applicant for this scheme, you are also entitled to an initial £200 payment upon approval by the Memorial Fund.  If you lost a parent, a child or have been injured yourself as a result of the conflict, you can apply for a £500 respite break voucher.

If you are a registered carer or a primary carer of people injured during the conflict, you can also apply for a payment.  Registered carers will need a letter from a GP to confirm they are a registered carer.

If you think you are entitled to financial assistance from any of these schemes, or if you would like further information, please contact the:-
