Could your organisation survive without the work of your volunteers? In many cases the answer is probably no.

The North West Volunteer Centre with the kind support of Lloyds TSB Foundation, Derry Credit Union and Northwest Counselling, will once again be hosting the Foyle Volunteer Awards. Why not take time out to nominate someone from your organisation to be recognised and say a sincere thank you for their contribution to the communities in the Derry City and Strabane & District council areas. There is also a special group category for people wishing to nominate a group of people who really have made a difference.

The aim of the final celebration is not to favour one volunteer or group over another but to highlight and promote the variety and diversity of volunteering activity within the council areas. All nominees will be recognised during the evening celebration.

In order to raise the profile of the work that often goes unnoticed and unseen the North West Volunteer Centre is urging you to submit a nomination so that a wide variety of volunteering activity and the people who undertake this work can be recognised.

Remember vote early, vote often and take time to recognise your volunteering champions! (See enclosed nomination form)

                          NATIONAL MINIMUM WAGE

Are you getting it?

             You could be entitled to:

Age 22+           £5.73 per hour
Age 18 to 21    £4.77 per hour
Age 16 & 17     £3.53 per hour

The National Minimum Wage rates increased as of the 1st October 2008.  According to current figures from the Department for Business Enterprise & Regulatory Reform, over 40,000 workers across Northern Ireland could benefit from this significant increase in the rate of National Minimum Wage.

The rates increase will make a significant difference to the wage packets of workers struggling to live on low wages.  However, despite the legal obligation on employers to implement the minimum wage, Northern Ireland remains one of the highest regions of
non-compliance in the UK.
